SIENA altitude of 322 meters with a population of 66,000, is located in the center of the Tuscan plane, on the hills that separate the Arbia and Elsa river basins. This noble city, rich in art and history, is a beautiful example of medieval urban planning. Sienas growth in the middle ages was due to the strength of its guilds. Today Siena is famous for its soft hilly contours, with glimpses of breathtaking views. Not to be missed are the sea shell shaped square, Piazza del Campo, the masterpieces by Duccio, Simone Martini and Lorenzetti to be found inside the National Painting Gallery, the Cathedral and the Baptistry.
